Meet Our Designers

                Tim Layzell

Owner/Commercial Furniture Designer

There is no box! I love projects that push the boundaries of what we can do with wood, steel, stone and glass. My artistic eye is paired with an engineer’s mindset to create furnishings as functional as they are beautiful. With a background in commercial contracting and an understanding of CAD there is almost no project we can’t do together.

Rachelle Layzell

Owner/Residential Furniture Designer

I love helping our customers create their perfect piece of furniture. I am here to help you through all the details from choosing your slab and base to deciding on custom features like bowties and glass. Thanks for choosing Jewell Hardwoods and I look forward to working with you.

Let's discuss your Custom Furniture idea...

Handcrafting Your Furniture

After your wood slabs are selected with our Furniture Designers, our craftsmen get to work. From precisely cut bow-ties to expert joinery, we specialize in going well beyond simple slab construction. The process begins by removing the bark and sanding smooth the live edges while keeping the natural shape. A straight edge option is also available. Recommended for indoor use only. See note at bottom of page.

A natural mixed Epoxy is applied to cracks and holes to give you a smooth surface, unless requested otherwise by our clients. The mixed epoxy takes on the color of the darkest grain of the slab. We also have many Fill Upgrades available to reflect your personal style: Precision cut glass for our Wood and Glass Table Collections, Crushed Turquoise Stone, Bronze, Custom colored tinted epoxy, Data ports, ect).

The slab top goes through many steps of sanding before we apply our Commercial Grade Acrylic Polyurethane topcoat. Our topcoat will create a hard and durable finish.  We use a clear natural finish that accentuates the color and grain without making it glossy. This finish is harder and more durable than conversion varnish, water resistant, UV resistant and formaldehyde free. Our finish will not blush or leave cup rings even if left exposed overnight. Our projects even stand up to the high use environments of commercial restaurants.

Choose Your Base

Our Bases are available in Metal, Wood and Acrylic in a wide variety of styles and combinations. If there is a specific style of base you are looking for our furniture designers will work with you to create your idea.

Turnaround Time

Your Custom Furniture will be ready in about 8-10 weeks. Timing for commercial projects, contact Tim Layzell. Shipping transit times vary based on location, typically 3-8 business days.

If you are looking for wood furniture for sale that is ready to be delivered, check out our Finished Furniture page to see what's available in our showroom.

RECCOMENDED FOR INDOOR USE ONLY

As durable as our finished custom furniture is, we do not recommend it being taken outside. The fluctuating temperatures and constant exposure to moisture will cause lasting damage that will not occur if kept inside your home or office. User acknowledges and assumes all risks of taking one of our pieces outside. Doing so will void our 1 year manufacturers warranty on the finish.

However, if kept inside our Commercial Grade Water Resistant finish will hold up for years under heavy use.

If Shipping Is Needed - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!

Jewell Hardwoods Custom Furniture Shipping

Our solid wood furniture is HEAVY! We are not your IKEA/Amazon small boxed furniture company. Be prepared for the average Dining Table to weigh 300-400 lbs.

For National Shipments -

If your furniture is not picked up or delivered locally, it will come in a custom built crate. We ship LTL Freight which will deliver to your curb. Be prepared to have someone on site to bring your crate into your home. The Freight company will not bring the crate into your home or unpack and assemble your furniture.

If the freight is over 7 feet be prepared to unload it from inside the truck as it will be too long to use a liftgate.

If requested by you and if the freight company allows, you can upgrade to Inside Delivery. Some freight companies offer this service. On rare occasions, if pre-arranged, the freight company may bring your freight into your garage/building. Must specifically talk to Rachelle Layzell, our shipping coordinator, and indicate your desire for this upgrade prior to shipping. If not included in your Proposal, an additional fee will be charged for Inside Delivery.

Shipping to your Local Freight Terminal is an option for those who will have a crate over 7ft. Since most people do not have a forklift at their home, you can pick up your crate at the local freight terminal. They make it easy for you by loading the crate into your truck with their equipment. From their you can un-crate and bring into your home or office one piece at a time.

LTL Freight Shipping costs for finished furniture can range greatly depending on the location and size of your finished piece. Any damages incurred by the LTL freight company will go through our claims process.

The Easiest Shipping Option - Upgrade to White Glove Service

Many of our clients choose to set up White Glove Service. This is the easiest way to have your furniture brought into your residence and assembled. We have a company we use that has locations throughout the United States and can provide you with a quote through them.

If you would like to find your own White Glove Moving Service, we recommend looking through Angie's List to find a reputable service in your area. Many of them can receive the freight in their warehouse, open and inspect the freight before delivering it to your home. Once you choose your moving company, let us know and we can connect them with the freight company.

If you choose for us to arrange this service we will provide you with the quote at the time you place your order and include it in your proposal. If you choose the company, you will pay the White Glove Moving Service separately as it is an additional charge from the LTL Freight shipping with us. Prices range all over the country from $250-$1000+ depending on the company and size of crate. We recommend for any table over 7ft to make sure your bid includes 4 movers to bring your table into your home due to the weight of the piece.

Jewell Hardwoods will not be responsible for any damages caused by the White Glove Moving Service.
