SHIPPING TERMS & CONDITIONS
- All slabs sent out UPS ground will require signature or appointment unless specified by customer during checkout. UPS ground packages must be less than 150 lbs and less than 165” in total girth (length + width + thickness).
- Shipments sent out as LTL Freight can be delivered to a commercial or residential location or local freight terminal.
- Local freight terminal pickups. When your freight arrives, the terminal will contact you with details of where to pickup. This is a good alternative for long packages that at times can not be delivered to residential areas. They can load in your truck with their forklift.
- Freight longer than 8-10’ (depending on carrier) is not able to be lowered by a lift gate. Customer to have forklift on site or the manpower to off load by hand.
- If you would like to request a lift-gate for packages under 8 feet there will be an additional $75 charge. Make sure to mention this to the freight coordinator.
- When a liftgate is Not requested the customer is responsible for unloading the crate off the freight truck. Due to the size of most freight, it is advised to have more than one person available on site to unload as Freight Truck Drivers are not allowed to handle the unloading of crates that are unable to be lowered by liftgate.
- Commercial locations require a Company name, contact name and phone number, and must have a loading dock or forklift to remove the package from the trailer. Commercial locations must be available during business hours for delivery.
- All freight shipments will be completely wrapped in OSB for the protection of your slabs.
- Damage and Claims: Unfortunately, despite good packaging, some packages are still damaged during transit. For your protection we carry insurance on all outgoing packages, both freight and UPS ground. All packages must be inspected by customer prior to signing the Bill of Lading Receipt. If any damage to the outside or to the slab on the inside is seen a note of the damage must be written on the Bill of Lading as well as pictures taken of the damage. Before signing the receipt, please contact Jewell Hardwoods and discuss any issues to determine the next course of action with the freight company claims department. If the proper steps are not taken by the customer for inspection and communication with Jewell Hardwoods, customer may be responsible for damage if the claim is denied for lack of claim evidence.
Due to the complexity of each freight order, all shipping quotes for freight will go through the Jewell Hardwoods Freight Shipping Department. It is our goal to provide you with the lowest rate possible for your freight shipment. In order to do that, we shop dozens of freight quotes for you and weigh the best options to save you money. We will contact you with a freight quote and delivery will be set up upon receipt of payment.
There are a few factors that can dramatically reduce the cost of your freight:
- Picking up your freight at the Local Freight Terminal
- Shipping to a commercial location with a forklift to unload
- Commercial locations require a Company name, Contact Name and Phone number, and must have a loading dock or forklift to remove the package from the trailer. Commercial locations must be available during business hours for delivery.
All Custom Furniture will be blanket wrapped inside of custom built plywood crate. Base will come detached and separated from table with hardware included for assembly. Tables will have pre-drilled holes for easy placement of base.
If your table is over 8-9 ft, many freight companies will not be able to provide you with a truck with a lift-gate. In that case you will need to be able to unload your crate from the freight truck-bed on your own. (A typical crate with table and base is around 500 pounds)
All residential deliveries must be able to receive a semi-truck for deliveries. If your driveway is too narrow or hard for a truck to navigate or if there is no way for the truck to turn around, the truck will be re-routed to the local shipping terminal. The carrier will then contact you to arrange an appointment to pick up your crate. (Additional shipping fees may apply in this case)
All freight deliveries will be made by appointment with the freight carrier. They will need a 3 hour window to deliver. Person receiving crate will be responsible for inspecting outside and inside for any shipping Damages.
